The 21st round of the Premier League featured a thrilling goal-fest, with Liverpool staging a remarkable comeback from a 0-2 deficit to equalize, only to suffer a heartbreaking 2-3 defeat in the 95th minute when Bournemouth scored the winning goal.
After the match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk could not hide his disappointment. In an interview, he analyzed the unacceptable defeat and the biggest problem the team is currently facing.
Van Dijk emphasized the team's tremendous effort in the second half, believing that Liverpool's all-out push in the final moments in pursuit of victory left their defense vulnerable. He admitted, "It's very disappointing; losing in the last minute is really hard to accept."
"Obviously, as we were trying our best to win, our defense sometimes exposed gaps. But conceding a goal so late is really frustrating. But I think the goal I scored before halftime was very important; it helped us regain our momentum and our feel for the second half."
“I think we showed that in the second half. We worked very hard and came back into the game with a great free kick. I think we also had some good chances, but unfortunately, that last throw-in defensive play cost us the most.”
In response to external doubts about the team's morale, Van Dijk gave a firm rebuttal: "I don't think there's anything wrong with our unity. We just had a great performance this week and received countless accolades."
"However, the reality is harsh. If you lose like you did today in three days, the public opinion will completely turn around. We are looking for the consistency to keep winning, and that is the reality we must face and solve."
